Karla Ann Beckman, 83, of Bonita, California, passed away on January 24, 2021 after a hard fought battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Daughter, sister, wife, mother, business woman, traveler, and friend. Karla had the finest qualities in each of these roles.
Karla was born on March 29, 1937 to Clarence and Calista Duling in Kalida, Ohio. As their daughter she grew up in Kalida working on the family farm. Long hours and a strong work ethic, as well as love of family, would serve her well for her entire life.
The strong bond of sisterhood started early. From childhood through adulthood Karla and her four sisters: Zella, Rita, Sarajane, and Linda, shared antics, trials, travels, fun times and memories that formed a bond that will endure beyond death.
Karla graduated from Kalida High School in 1955 and married James (Jim) Beckman, her high school sweetheart in 1957. They were married 63 years. In those years they loved and supported each other and raised two children, Donna and Daniel.
Karla and Jim moved to San Diego in 1969 with their two children. Shortly thereafter they bought a vending business they ran together for five years. In addition, Karla was a Real Estate Broker for more than 20 years and put innumerable clients into the homes of their dreams.
Karla and Jim loved to travel and toured the United States with their children until they were grown. When they retired in 1992 Karla and Jim continued to travel the United States visiting family, friends, classmates, Presidential Libraries and many other scenic locations. They also traveled to many places around the world.
Being with and around people was a great joy of Karla’s and she had many friends. Never knowing a stranger and always lending a helping hand she touched many people with her love and kindness.
Known for her ability to get things done, Karla always did more than her share in any endeavor she chose. Whether running the vending business with Jim, her own Real Estate business, raising her children, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grand children, or helping a friend she always went above and beyond, she will be greatly missed by all.
Karla was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Calista Duling, sister, Elaine Duling, Brother-in-laws, Gene Thompson, Dennis Brinkman, and Dennis Nartker.
Karla is survived by her husband Jim Beckman; four sisters: Zella Thompson, Rita Brinkman, Sarajane Kuhlman (Gary), Linda Nartker,(Kenn), two children: Donna Vignapiano (Louis), Daniel Beckman (Lynn), grandchildren: Cassandra Beckman, Kyle Beckman (Aliyah), Emily Vignapiano, great-grandchildren: Tyler Beckman, Steven Beckman, Landyn Beckman.
