Kyrre Peder was born in Nordkjosbotn, Troms og Finnmark county, Norway, September 11, 1932. He was the eldest son of Aminda Sophia Pedersen and Ottar Andresen Nordmo and had three siblings, sister Irene , twin brothers, Alf and Odd.
With the onset of WWII, the German invasion of Norway spring 1940, Kyrre Peder and his family endured the grim, harsh Nazi occupation of the family farm and home until 1945. Due to mined German munition fields left by the retreating Germans, Kyrre accidentally suffered the loss of one eye at age 13. Undaunted by this terrible mishap, with great fortitude and courage, he continued striving for a higher education and his zeal for soccer, running, ski jumping, and speed skating, losing the Norwegian speed skating record by only two seconds.
He attended the University of Oslo and later the Trondheim Technical University obtaining a Mathematics Degree. He was always proud to have attended the University of Oslo at the same time as Prince Harald, present King of Norway. Winning a scholarship to the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington in 1959 and being sponsored by the Dupont Family, he successfully graduated in 1962 earning BS degrees in Civil Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering. During his attendance at University of Washington, he played soccer for the Huskies, later joining the Vikings, Sunnyvale United and Zagreb. In 1974, he was awarded the USSF C Soccer coaching license and coached children for many years in San Francisco Bay Area, California.
He was employed for twelve years by Dames and Moore, Seattle, Washington and Wahler and Associates , Palo Alto, California. In 1974, he opened his own engineering firm, Nordmo Associates, Inc. in Sunnyvale, California and continued his engineering career until 2014 when he retired.
Kyrre was adventurous, enjoying extensive world travelling, new cultures, cuisines, and people. He enjoyed Opera as well as classic movies like My Fair Lady and John Wayne westerns.
Kyrre Peder is survived by three children from his first marriage, Jan Eric, Kim Tracy and Derek Peder, daughter-in-law, Nicola, a grandson, Eric Nicolas, and by his beloved partner, Sharon Ruth.
Crematory services will be held by the Trident Society, San Diego, California and a life celebration memorial service will be held at a future planned time. Kyrre Peder Nordmo will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched and by those who loved him dearly.
