LaTrelle was born March 3rd, 1928 in Madill, OK at the home of her grandparents, John H. Trammell and Fannie Arvalla Oliver Trammell, to parents William D. New, of Cherokee heritage, and Margaret Ruth Trammell New. She was preceded in death by her parents and her elder sister, Billye New Troutman.
She was a homemaker for many years, but returned to school later in life to become an LVN and worked at Saint Edwards Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. LaTrelle moved from Fort Smith after the death of her husband, Edwin Cox, to the San Francisco Bay area in 1969. She continued to work as a private duty nurse and returned to college, eventually earning a bachelor’s degree and a teaching credential from Cal State Hayward in 1978. She then taught adult education with the Hayward Unified School district for the next eighteen years until her retirement.
Following her retirement, LaTrelle moved from the SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA to the Los Angeles area. She was an accomplished artist, seamstress, and cook. LaTrelle loved to travel, sing, dance, and she enjoyed the beauty of Jehovah God’s creation. Hawaii was one of her favorite travel destinations.
She was a kind, self-sacrificing, generous, and beautiful soul who was much respected and loved. She often stated that her greatest accomplishments were her three children. LaTrelle is survived by her three children, Lynda Watts of Oceanside, CA, son Michael Cox of Concord, CA, and Terry Cox of San Jacinto, CA. She was also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are pending @Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
