Marilyn Iruguin, a woman whose life radiated love, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to her family, passed away on April 16, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on December 21st, 1961, in Abucay, Bataan, Marilyn immigrated to the US on March 13, 1968, at the age of 6, arriving in Anchorage, Alaska, with her parents, Florencio and Conrada, and siblings Alvin and Debbie. Moving around San Diego she had graduated from Mira Mesa High School and SDSU with a BS in Health Science. Marilyn's journey was marked by selflessness and a profound ability to touch the lives of all who knew her.
Her commitment to her loved ones was the very essence of her being. She created a haven of warmth and security for her family, always ensuring their happiness was paramount. This spirit of generosity extended beyond her home, as her kindness left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
The magic of Christmas held a special enchantment for Marilyn. She transformed her home into a festive wonderland each year, embracing the joy of the season with carefully chosen decorations and a fondness for Hallmark Christmas movies that kept the spirit alive throughout the year. For her, Christmas was a cherished opportunity to create the joyful memories she longed for as a child, ensuring an abundance of love and small treasures for her family.
Marilyn dedicated 32 years of her life to the US Postal Service, where her tireless work ethic provided steadfast financial stability for her family. Her commitment, demonstrated through years of both night and day shifts, was a testament to her deep love and unwavering determination. Her lifelong dedication to teaching financial literacy was a profound gift that will continue to guide her children.
Beyond her professional and familial roles, Marilyn embraced life with a spirit of adventure and joy. She found immense pleasure in traveling, meticulously planning unforgettable road trips across California and beyond. Her passion for all things Disney was boundless. She enthusiastically sang along to classic tunes, creatively designed her Dreamlight Valley, and eagerly followed the latest Disney releases. Her eclectic tastes also included a love for sci-fi and romance, with "Star Wars," romance novels, and "Star Trek" holding a special place in her heart.
As a mother, Marilyn was deeply invested in providing her children with the experiences she had missed. She was a constant presence at every concert, recital, and birthday celebration, wholeheartedly encouraging them to explore their talents and passions. Despite facing the challenges of arthritis, Marilyn approached life with grace and a wonderful sense of humor, never allowing pain to diminish her inherent joy.
Marilyn was known for her open-minded and progressive nature, always wishing the very best for those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of profound love, unwavering kindness, and remarkable resilience, inspiring all who knew her to embrace life with compassion and laughter.
Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband, Roberto; her devoted son, RJ; and her cherished daughter, Arlene.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Sharp Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care during Marilyn’s final days as she bravely battled several infections and septic shock.
Family and friends are warmly invited to celebrate Marilyn's life at a Memorial Service to be held at Cypress View on Friday, May 9, following her cremation. Public visitation with friends and family will begin at 10:30 AM.
