She graduated from Denver University with an Art major and Education minor, and as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
She was rooming with her life-long friend, Mary (Ahrens) Cary, and teaching 4th Grade, when she met John Meyer. John was on a temporary assignment in Denver for a Canadian pipeline company. The couple first met at a “Belles and Beaus” dance in a church basement, and were wed six weeks later – entering a marriage of fifty-three years.
Marion and John were actively involved in Presbyterian churches in Denver, Jacksonville (Florida), and Southern California. Marion was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization. In addition to her responsibilities as a wife, mother, and homemaker, she worked different part-time jobs in educational, library, and office settings, and volunteered in various capacities.
She was preceded in death by John in 2011, and by her brother, Dr. Norman G. Brink, in 2001.
She is survived by her daughters Laura Meyer and Julia Meyer Bell, son-in-law Steve Bell, granddaughters Amelia and Anya Bell, and Anya’s partner, Victor Haywood. The illustrious “Lu”, the family’s tail-wagging member, misses Grandma too.
In facing the challenges of aging, Marion held close the belief that with God, all things are possible. Mindful of God’s helping hands, the family would like to thank the staff at Meadowbrook Village in Escondido, both in assisted living and skilled nursing, for the care and compassion they showed their mother/ mother-in-law/ grandmother in her final days.
Marion loved good music, and Beauty in its many forms. She was intellectually curious, and grateful to share a good laugh. :) She is remembered as sweet, kind, and gracious. She loved dark chocolate, and sunshine and warmth — especially the warmth of those near and dear to her; she loved her family and friends.
Grateful for all she had, Marion gave back (in part) by donating to Interfaith Community Services. For those wishing to make a donation in her honor, an Interfaith link is provided below. (Keep scrolling!). Alternatively, please consider making a donation to Meadowbrook Village’s Employee Appreciation Fund. A check can be mailed to 100 Holland Glen, Escondido, CA 92026. Please make the check payable to “Meadowbrook Village” and note in the memo section that it is for the Employee Appreciation Fund.
