Mary L. Pastore, beloved mother, grandmother, devoted nurse, and lifelong equestrian, passed away peacefully on March 26th, 2024, after a courageous four year battle with ovarian cancer. She was seventy-one. Born in Watertown, Connecticut, Mary was the daughter of the late Nina Hayward Lockhart and Carlton Lockhart.
Throughout her remarkable life, Mary touched the hearts of all who knew her with her unwavering kindness and compassion. As a dedicated nurse for over five decades, she selflessly cared for countless individuals, bringing comfort and healing to those in need. Her commitment to the well-being of others was truly inspiring and her impact on the lives she touched will be felt for generations to come.
Beyond her remarkable career in nursing, Mary found solace and joy in her deep connection with animals, particularly her beloved horses. From a young age, she was drawn to the grace and beauty of horses, and they brought her immeasurable happiness throughout her life. Whether she was in the saddle or caring for her cherished equine companions, Mary found peace and fulfillment in the presence of horses.
Mary will be fondly remembered for her gentle spirit, care of others, and her boundless love for family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her two sons, Tony and John, her older brother, George Lockhart, and two loving grandchildren, Ekai and Kala, who will forever cherish the memories of her love, laughter, and the countless lives she touched.
While in remission in 2020, Mary rescued and restored the health of a malnourished palomino horse named Sunny in Lakeside, California—a considerable feat that brought her lasting satisfaction. In this spirit, the family kindly requests that any donations be made to FalconRidge Equine Rescue (https://www.nickibranch.com/falconridge/help.html), in honor of Mary's passion and her dedication to helping others.
