Mary loved Hawaii, so in honor of her, we will continue the celebration on Saturday, March 29th with a Luau picnic in Rohr Park, gazebo 4, 4548 Sweetwater Rd., Bonita 91902. All are welcome any time from 12-4.
After living 10 years with Alzheimer’s, Mary passed away peacefully on June 29, 2024. Despite the disease, the essence of Mary with the ever-present twinkle in her eye, stayed with her until the end.
Mary grew up in Maine, joined the Army at age18 and was stationed in the Woman's Army Corp in Japan, and eventually made her way to San Diego, where her independent, vivacious way of being continued to thrive. She opened a beauty shop and eventually taught cosmetology at SDCC.
Upon retiring she became "Granny the Nanny" and took loving care of her youngest grandchild, Shae-Lin.
Mary is survived by her husband, Arden Ray Patterson, and children, Patrick and Tanya. Mary outlived children, Deborah and Shanor. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica, Angela, Laura, Jenette, Jessica, Shanor and Shae-Lin. Great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren have survived Mary and will be present to celebrate her life.
Mary was straightforward & direct, resilient, strong, supportive, nurturing and above all, family focused. Family and friends continue to remember her as a force of nature, feisty, spicy, sweet, creative, and a hoot. Her daughter, Tanya continues to admire her attributes as ahead of her times, inspiring, genuine, and unforgettable.
