Michael Ivan Sloan (Mike) of San Diego, California passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at the age of 74. He was born on January 9, 1950 at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was decorated with two Purple Hearts, RVN Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, National Defense Service Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. After serving with the USMC, he worked as a Computer Integration Consultant until retirement. After retirement, he was actively involved in supporting and mentoring Veterans at the San Diego Veterans Treatment Court in San Diego. He was the President and Co-Founder of the American Combat Veterans of War (ACVOW) for the VA Medical Center. He was the 2021 recipient of the Will Hays Lifetime Support of Veterans.
He was a Civil War Buff and an avid reader of historical books. He enjoyed his Napoleonic and Civil War board games. He also enjoyed playing golf and he was a member of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and volunteered at the U.S. Open in Torrey Pines and the annual Farmers Insurance Open. He also traveled all over the nation and overseas as a companion to his wife when she performs with the Medical Musical Group Chorale and Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra is dedicated to America’s Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Richard Sloan and mother, Ann Caroline Miller Sloan.
He is survived by his wife, Clara Ung-Sloan; son, Sean Michael Sloan; daughter, Katherine Ann Taylor (Sloan); brothers William Sloan, Jack Sloan, Robert Sloan and sister Patty Christensen (Sloan); grandsons Conor Sean Sloan, Braden Levi Taylor and Davis Sloan Taylor.
