He was a loving son, husband, and father. He is survived by his children, Barbara, Brenna, Katherine, and Kenneth Ring, and his daughter-in-law, Mylena Ring. His wife, Dolores Lee Ring, survived him by two months and 3 days.
Morey Ring grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He loved baseball as a child. He went to games with his father. He could still remember baseball statistics from his childhood over 80 years later.
He graduated with a B. A. in Chemistry from UCLA. He went to the University of Washington, where he met the love of his life. Dolores Dickinson was a school teacher. Her roommates knew Morey's roommates. They all got together and brought Dolores and Morey along. They bonded almost instantly and began dating. Then Morey had to leave for Baltimore, where he would do his post doctoral work. He asked her if she would come with him. She said, "yes". They were married in February 1960.
After his post doc was completed, the family, who now included twins, moved back to the West Coast, where Morey worked at Rocketdyne. But he wanted to teach so he applied to 4 schools. He held out until the school with the best research prospects, San Diego State University (then known as San Diego State College), offered him a position.
He spent the next 33 years at San Diego State University (1962 - 1995). During this time, he welcomed a daughter and a son. He was part of the team who, with the help of the chair, Hal Walba, and the president, President Malcom Love, developed the first Ph. D. program in the California State College system. His heart was in research and he was proud of getting research grants for most of the years he was at San Diego State University. He also enjoyed helping students in the lab. He ended his career at San Diego State University as the Department Chair of Chemistry.
Retirement freed him up to travel and to learn golf. He visited all the states of the United States as well as Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland, Russia, Poland, China, and other countries. He also welcomed a daughter-in-law, Mylena Ring, into the family. He died in his home, surrounded by his family.
