She is survived by her husband Tom Watson, children Diana Zawacki and Eric Watson, grandchildren Landon Zawacki and Peyton Zawacki and brother Floyd Johnson.
Patti was born in Riverside, CA to Floyd and Pauline Johnson in 1955. She was a graduate of Perris High School and received her B.A degree in Sociology from the University of Southern California (USC) in 1977.
Patti and Tom met at USC in 1975 and were together until the time of her death. They were married in 1981. Daughter Diana was born in 1988 and was followed by son Eric in 1993. They were the joys of Patti’s life, along with Diana’s children.
The family lived in Carlsbad from 1984 to 2014 and then moved to their current home in Oceanside. Patti started her professional career in 1983, as Human Resources Manager for Pacific Recorders and Engineering in Carlsbad. Patti left work after Eric’s birth to focus on the children. She served numerous volunteer roles including classroom, Team Mom and PTA.
After the children were raised, Patti returned to the workforce as a Special Education Classroom Aide at La Costa Meadows Elementary School. This experience of working with the children and staff at the school was one of Patti’s most rewarding experiences.
After returning from a family vacation, Patti was diagnosed with Glioblastoma brain cancer in April of 2024. She spent the remainder of her life at home.
A Memorial Service commemorating Patti’s life will be held in July. If interested, please contact the family for details.
In lieu of flowers, any gift of remembrance may be sent to Kim’s Hope. (link below)
