Paul Edward Arnold, 86, passed away on Friday, October 6, 2023 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. He was the son of the late Zack Harrison Arnold and Leola Horton Arnold of Macon, GA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Rebekah “Becky” Arnold and his sister, Patti Arnold Long.
He was born on April 16, 1937 in Macon, GA, the second of three children. He graduated from Lanier High School for Boys in 1955 and attended Mercer University in Macon, GA. After his junior year in college, he decided to take a break from school and joined the Army. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for part of his Army career, where he enjoyed the culture and sights. He was discharged from active duty in 1961 to reserve status and re-enrolled at Mercer, graduating with a degree in Chemistry in 1962. He eventually accepted a job with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Drinking Water Program, where he worked for 34 years, retiring in 1998.
Some of Paul’s favorite pastimes were traveling around the world, playing Sudoku, birdwatching, fishing and visiting his family and friends around the US in California, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Texas (to name a few). He also enjoyed spending his summers at the apartment he shared with Harriet in Philadelphia, where he walked and lounged in Rittenhouse Square and enjoyed the restaurants, entertainment and atmosphere Philadelphia had to offer.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Dworkin Arnold of Coconut Creek, FL; son, Christopher Edward Arnold of Dallas, GA; daughter, Kelly Arnold Willis (Sascha) of San Marcos, CA; his grandchildren, Alex and Josie Willis of San Marcos, CA; brother, Zack Arnold (Beth) of Lilburn, GA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and his bonus children, Dr. Ira Dworkin (Jenna) and Dr. Jodi Dworkin Strack (Geoff) and their children.
