Roger Bert Anderson

Roger B. Anderson of Chula Vista, San Diego passed away suddenly at home on January 2, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born in the state of South Dakota. Roger was the youngest child of William and Mildred Anderson. While growing up in South Dakota he helped with the farming duties on the Anderson farm. He graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1969. He enlisted in the Navy in 1969 and was stationed at Miramar in San Diego California. He was blessed with two children Christy (Halls) and Jake Anderson. San Diego was paradise to Roger, and he lived the rest of his life there.

After leaving the Navy, Roger went into the medical field (radiology) and worked in that field for over 33 years. Roger was one of the first people in San Diego to help refine the use of the CAT Scanner for the University of San Diego. He also loved sailing and obtained a Captain license so he could run a charter business taking people out sailing.

Roger ran Mariposa Sailing aka Anderson Marine. He enjoyed giving people the experience of sailing on the ocean. During one of his cruises, he was blessed to see a mother whale give birth alongside his boat.

Roger built his own 50 ft sailboat (a feat most people would never complete, it took 9 years) and named her Kailio. He sailed many sailboat races in San Diego with his friends, as well as from Long Beach, CA to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Roger loved to travel. He traveled with his 10-speed bicycle in New Zealand, Samoa,

Australia and some of the Hawaii islands during his free lifestyle during the hippy movement. He vacationed in many countries with his wife Pat. They visited Africa, Ireland, Alaska, Canada, Italy, the Caribbean & Mediterranean Islands. As well as taking road trips across the USA and visiting family.

Roger played golf while in retirement and even got the “Hole in One” most golfers dream of.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William & Mildred Anderson and siblings, Virginia, Roxey and Richard. Roger is survived by his wife, Patricia Anderson. His children, Jake (Cielo) Anderson, Christy (Forest) Halls, Robert (Julie) Garner, Billy (Paula) Garner. Siblings: Walter (Carol) Anderson, Judy (Ron) Michlitsch and Constance (Joe) Kiernan. Eight Grandchildren: Mathew, Kaitlyn, Nickie, Larissa, Logan, Cloe, Theo and Riley. 1 Great Grandchild, Alayna.
