Ronald Eckberg (Ron) of San Diego California passed away on June 11, 2023 at the age of 88. He was born on October, 13 1934 in St Paul, Minnesota where he grew up. After graduating from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Civil Engineering, he married Sally Shepard in 1957. Ron and Sally Eckberg had had three children and moved to San Diego California to raise their young family.
Ronald served as a member of the National Guard Reserves, demonstrating his dedication to his country and community. Then worked as as an Aerospace Engineer and project manager for 35 years for General Dynamics where he was well respected for his contributions to space travel programs, leadership, and attention to detail.
Outside of his professional and family life, Ronald had a passion for sports and enjoyed many different activities throughout his life. Growing up in Minnesota, he was an enthusiastic hockey player. He loved playing basketball, softball, tennis, golf and later picked up swimming and bowling. His love for sports extended beyond his own participation, as he coached multiple baseball and football teams, positively impacting the lives of many young athletes.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sally Eckberg, who was his steadfast partner in life. He is also survived by his children; Stephen Eckberg, Kirsten Channing and Karen Nares, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He also adored his seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren
Ronald will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of positivity, love, dedication and kindness will continue to inspire and guide us. May he rest in peace, knowing that he made a significant impact on the lives around him.
Ronald R. Eckberg’s family will be holding a funeral service and celebration of life on July 6, 2023. He will be laid to rest at the El Camino Memorial-Sorrento Valley and Memorial Park in a private family service.
