Sally Schofield, 90 of San Diego, CA died at the Covenant Living at Mt. Miguel
retirement village on January 3, 2024.
She was born in Wooster, Oh in 1933 to parents Gernard and Ethel Kaser.
She attended Wooster High School and lived the life of a 1950’s teenager. In
her diary she wrote how her and her best friend Marilyn McKee did everything
together, going to dances, attending sports games, skating rinks, movies and
dating boys.
When she met and dated Ray Slabaugh she wrote in the diary how he gave
her an engagement ring after 2 years of dating each other and how “now she
has to quit dating other boys.” They married in 1953.
They had 2 children; Bradley James (b. 1959) and Bonnie Jean (b. 1960) and
lived in Wooster until their divorce in 1983.
She then moved to Phoenix, AZ to be near her daughter Bonnie and her
family who had moved there several years earlier. There she met Norman
Schofield (Engineer at Honeywell) and married him in 1985. They lived in
Payson, AZ where she found odd jobs to keep herself busy and also
participated in art shows, where she won several ribbons for her paintings.
After Norm’s retirement, they bought a sailboat with the idea of sailing around
the world. She was excited for the thought of traveling all over the globe. They
soon sold their house in Payson, AZ and sailed down to Ensenada, Mexico
then onto La Paz, Mexico where they stayed for several years until Norm
passed away in 2003.
After that, she moved in with her daughter Bonnie in San Diego and lived with
her for 15 years. Her love for travel and adventure took her all over the world
during this time where she was able to experience different cultures and
lifestyles with the Overseas Adventure Travel group.
She also loved hanging out with her friends, going to movies, dinners, plays,
dances and going to Casa De Oro Bible Church where she was a member.
She eventually moved to a retirement village in Spring Valley, CA in the hopes
of being fulfilled with activities, trips, and just being around others in her age
group. There she stayed until she passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents Gernard and Ethal Kaser, and
husband Norman Schofield, and is survived by son Bradley Slabaugh of
Denver, CO, daughter Bonnie (Joel) Diaz of San Diego, and three
grandchildren Heidi (Jerome) Fatzinger of Shreve, OH, Stephanie (Warren)
Hampton of Monroe, NC, and Christina (Josep) Copley of Rittman, OH, along
with 12 great grandchildren.
She was the life of the party, the spark that ignited joy in every gathering.
Sally’s presence was like a burst of fireworks on a dark night, and her sharp
wit kept everyone on their toes. With her infectious smile and laughter, she
turned ordinary moments into extraordinary ones. She will be sadly missed
