Sybil Margaret (Wolf) Herzinger, was born to the late Ralph Harry Wolf, Sr., and the late Sybil
Christina Diffey, of St. Louis, MO, April 20, 1943. She graduated Cleveland High School, St. Louis,
MO, in 1961. She worked as a pin setter in high school and as a telephone operator after high
school.
Sybil, better known as “Marty” to family and “Marge” to church people, was the oldest of four
children: the late Kathryn (Ron) Lyons, Janet Wyatt, and Ralph “Buddy” (Judy) Wolf, Jr. She is
survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family was very important to her. If she
attended your baptism, Confirmation or graduation, she would cry and smile proudly.
Marty was funny and loved to laugh. Her laugh was contagious; you couldn’t help laughing with her.
She told great stories about people in the family and she loved to sing. She would sing silly songs
with her children and their cousins when they went on road trips together, especially when they went
to visit their cousins who lived in Hermann, MO. She loved to crochet; she made many afghans and
christening gowns for friends and family. She was a faithful Christian who sang in the church choir.
She was a good friend and loving family member.
Marty married Ronald Lee Herzinger “Lee”, April 24, 1965, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 1126
South Kingshighway Boulevard, St. Louis, MO, where she was a member with her family. They had
two children together: Barbara Lee, of Valparaiso, IN, and Michael (Deborah) of El Cajon, CA.
Marty and Lee divorced in 1979. Marty remained close with her in-laws; Marian (late Donald),
Patricia (Jim) Lewis, Patricia (late Michael), Jonnie Sue (Larry) Brown, and Dean Montgomery.
Marty and the kids attended Messiah Lutheran Church and School on South Grand Boulevard in St.
Louis. Both kids were baptized and confirmed there. Marty was active in the Mother’s Club. She
was also a Brownie leader and became the lunch lady for the elementary school in the mid-1970’s.
She went on to work as a receptionist in an eye doctor’s office and bank teller at Commerce Bank in
the early 1980’s. Mike and Barb and all their friends would go into the bank to let Marty know they
were home from school. In the mid-1980’s, Marty worked for American National Insurance
Company in Kirkwood, MO. She then went to work for Blockbuster Corporation as an administrative
assistant.
In 2000, Marty moved to California to be closer to her son, Mike, and her grandchildren, Deston
Herzinger and Missy Marlaire. She worked for CVS until she had a stroke in 2006 which affected
her short-term memory. She also suffered from COPD and diabetes for years. Marty lived
independently until 2011. During the Great Blackout of 2011 in the southwest, she fell in her
apartment and broke her hip. She went to rehab and remained in nursing facilities until her death.
Marty entered her eternal rest on July 23, 2020, after a brief stay in the hospital. She died from
complications of COPD and diabetes.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to be determined..
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her name can be made to the Lutheran Deaconess
