Sylvia A Chambers died peacefully at the Grossmont (Sharp) Hospital on 10 May, 2017. Preceded in her death by husband Jack Chambers, parents Donald and Lillian McArthur, mother-in-law Jeanette Winther, and sister –in – law Jerry Nelson. A Memorial Service for Sylvia will be held at the La Mesa Adult Enrichment Center, 8450 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa on Monday June 5, 2017. A light lunch will be served at 1 pm at the commencement of the Service. Sylvia was born in Toronto, Canada, and relocated to San Diego when she was about 5 years old, living out her life there. She went to San Diego High and graduated in 1938 then attended the Mercy College of Nursing, where she graduated in 1941. In 1942, Sylvia married Jack Chambers. They were married for 53 years until Jack died in 1995. Sylvia worked as a registered nurse and a public health nurse for many years. She was involved in the League of Women’s Voters, the Elks and the VFW. She was a member of the La Mesa and College Avenue Senior Citizens Centers. Sylvia was an avid bridge player, a veracious reader, loved the outdoors, and gardening and spent many happy years camping in Mexico with Jack. Sylvia loved art, music, and theatre. She supported a number of charities and charitable groups. Sylvia loved life and people and lived a full and active life for most of her 97 years. Survivors include: daughter Kathleen McEntee, who lives in Australia with husband Greg, Granddaughter Amanda and her husband Michael Siemens, Great Grandchildren Chaz and Tyler Siemens and in San Diego, niece Genie Atreaga and husband David, and Grand Nephews Tino and Emilio Arteaga. Donations in her memory can be made to your favorite charity.
