Terry was born June 06, 1942, to Walter Vernon and Gladys Evelyn (Wilkerson) Hess in Wichita, Kansas. Upon graduating from Western High School in 1960 she would go on to attend Fullerton College and was a member of Theta Nu Theta.
In 1964, shortly after college, Terry married James H. Bergfeld (divorced 1977), bringing 2 wonderful children into this world, Erin and Sean.
Terry was president of Beta Sigma Phi, organizing the Cystic Fibrosis fundraising. She was also a
member of the Soroptimist Club where she volunteered at the Camarillo State Hospital. Throughout her professional career, Terry would blaze her trail in retail management and banking management. Taking the experience to new heights, she later became an Entrepreneur, running her own small business jewelry store. She retired in 2008, eventually moving to her home in Oceanside to spend her days cherishing time with her family.
Terry enjoyed dance and theatre. performed as a can-can dancer at Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, California. Throughout her lifeTerry dabbled in and enjoyed many hobbies. Some of these included traveling, music, painting, drawing, calligraphy, writing short stories and poems. She enjoyed macramé, sewing, craft making, knitting, needlepoint, and miniatures.
She also found self-realization through her philosophical and spiritual readings as well as in her daily practices. Terry loved God, Jesus, and her family, finding true value in the time she had with her children,
grandchildren and her pets.
She was especially fond of her family’s history and sought to preserve the Hess heritage for future generations. Later in life, her faith brought her to become a baptized member of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.
Terry was predeceased by her parents and her sister Heidi Lee Hess. Terry is survived by her two children: her daughter, Erin Bergfeld, and spouse Dave Lewis of Oceanside, California; and her son Sean Bergfeld and spouse Mindy Bergfeld of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her six grandchildren: Branden, Jessica, Shae, Taylor, Aidan and Dana; and her four great-grandchildren: Angel, Jordan, Saylem, and Aiden.
A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1st at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, 208 California Street, Oceanside CA, 92054.
