William “Bill” Duff Edwards of San Diego, CA passed away on Wednesday, June 21st, 2023 at the age of 83. He was born on August 11th, 1939 in Cohasset, MA where he lived until moving with his family to the Point Loma area at age 9.
Bill was a bibliophile and a mastermind when it came to machines. Throughout his 42 years working for Solar Turbines, a division of Caterpillar, Bill traveled all over the world and was known as an expert in gas turbines. As a Division Head in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he met the woman who would become the mother of his two children, a son and a daughter. Returning to Point Loma, they raised their children who would go on to attend Point Loma High School, of which he and his sister Martha were alumni.
Bill divorced later in life, retired from Caterpillar and spent his remaining years enjoying a life of leisure in the Lake Murray area of La Mesa. Bill bestowed upon his children his love for cars, trains, airplanes, Mexican food and Costco, and loved sharing his vast knowledge with them. He was a perfectionist when it came to mechanics, building and tinkering; all of his projects were created with exacting precision. Bill was also an accomplished greenthumb, and was tickled by interesting vocabulary words. He was always quick with a joke and loved any opportunity to enjoy his children and 6 grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Eleanor. His sister, Martha, passed three weeks after he did. He is survived by son, Jonathan, (wife, Jessica and their five children Carlos (15), Chloe “Clover” (13), Sophia (10), Lincoln (10) and Amelia(4)), and daughter Georgina Edwards (daughter, Giovanna (9)). His ashes will be spread at Sunset Cliffs intermixed with his sister’s in a family ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Cohasset Historical Society.
