He was born on June 30, 1938 in Watsonville, CA, to parents, Pablo and Margarita Tangonan. He is survived by his daughters, Valerie Alderete and Veronica Tangonan; four grandsons, Brian, Christopher, Eric and Isaiah Alderete; and two great-grandchildren, Brian and Aaliyah Alderete. He was preceded in death by his long-time love and partner, Rene Palma, in December of 2017.
As a young man, Conrad served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the local American Legion Post 31. After serving, he went back to school to become a Computer Programmer Analyst. He went to work for Teledyne Technologies and eventually moved to the Bay Area to continue his career in the computer industry. Years later he returned to Salinas where he enjoyed bartending and retired from Enterprise Holdings.
As an only child, he developed some very deep rooted, life-long friendships which actually stood the test of time. He and his many friends shared similar interests, which included dirt bike racing, working on engines and customizing cars. Cars were his passion. He also enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR racing, playing cards and working crossword puzzles. Although pretty quiet, Conrad had a very witty sense of humor appreciated by all that knew him. The little smirk that he’d flash usually meant something was up. Not only did he love smooth jazz, but he could also whip out some old school Soul Train dance moves if the occasion arose. He was a lot of fun and enjoyed spending time with family and friends on any occasion. He will be missed by all that knew him.
Private services will be held, Friday, December 16th, 2022 at the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery in Seaside, CA.
