Doris was born and raised in San Jose, California and graduated from Lincoln High School, later studying Anthropology and Women’s Studies at De Anza College and Cabrillo College. She spent most of her adult life in Santa Cruz County and was a California woman with a hippie heart and gypsy soul. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, great sense of humor and irreverent life choices. She lived her life dancing to her own tune, which was usually a Grateful Dead song.
She loved and is loved by her sons Rick Barkley (Laurie) and Brett Barrow (Leslie) and her daughter Veronica Hoyle-Kent (Rick) as well as her ten grandchildren: Jenny, Justin, Jarrett, Erin, Brian, Gaylene, Samantha, Jake, Sean and Shannon and 7 great grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her father, Vincent Azcarate; mother, Dorothy Barkley; and beloved brother, Fred Azcarate; as well as her stepfather, Jack Barkley and stepmother, Josephine Azcarate.
Her family will privately celebrate her life and return her to Mother Earth with her beloved life partner, Dave Hally.
