Born on July 31, 1961, Mark was adopted by Robert and Helen Gurries (both predeceased), and survived by his sister Mary Kay Going and brother Paul Gurries. Mark is also survived by his birth parents, Durand and Pat Mortenson, and his brother David Mortenson. He felt fortunate to have both families as part of his life.
Mark graduated from Santa Clara University in Electrical Engineering and his work eventually led him to patents with Apple along with being respected for his strong work ethic. He had high-level computer knowledge and worked consistently to produce new and better products in the field.
Mark’s fascination with trains began as a young boy and he soon became a train enthusiast and railway fanatic. His love of tinkering showed in his collecting and building of model train sets which meshed with his love of travel and took him and his family to train museums and shows all over the country.
We will remember the good man and his big heart who loved his family and never hesitated to share his many talents and possessions so generously with all of his family, friends, and community. He was a man of faith and tolerance and believed in service to others. Those who knew and loved him were charmed by his boyish smile, appreciated his patience, and laughed at his sharp wit.
Services will be held at a later date.
