Obituary of Mary Lou Atkins

Mary Lou Atkins (Thompson) passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025, in Monterey, California surrounded by her loving family. Her vibrant spirit and warm heart left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born on January 6, 1943, in Oakland, California. Mary Lou had a lifelong love of nature which became a defining thread throughout her life. She eventually made her home in Scott’s Valley, where she embraced mountain living with open arms and found endless joy in the simple pleasures of life—walking among towering trees, enjoying the sun’s warmth, and listening to the soothing rhythm of ocean waves.

Mary Lou was a passionate supporter of artists and small businesses. Through her own venture, MLA Productions, she championed creativity and entrepreneurship with unwavering dedication. Her work reflected her belief in nurturing talent and fostering community spirit.

An ardent animal lover, Mary Lou shared her life with many cherished companions over the years. Among them were KD, her beloved Golden Retriever; Gracie, her affectionate cat; and Blaze, her sweet horse. Her bond with animals mirrored her generous and kind nature—a kindness she extended to everyone she met.

Mary Lou's laughter and personality were a gift to those around her—brightening gatherings with family and friends over a good Margarita or during quiet moments filled with heartfelt conversation. She had an extraordinary ability to make others feel seen and valued, always taking a genuine interest in the lives of those she loved.

She is survived by her loving family and many longtime friends who will forever cherish the countless ways she touched their lives. Mary Lou’s generosity, warmth, and radiant spirit remain lasting gifts to all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed but may her memory continue to bring comfort and inspiration to those whose lives she so beautifully enriched.
