Mike was the kind of guy that everyone liked. He was raised in Berkeley, was in the Navy, got a 2-year degree in photography, and worked as a janitor while living in the Bay Area. He moved to Carmel in the 1970s, still working as a janitor. He had interests in motorcycles, British cars, science fiction and computers. He joined AppleSMUG as a founding member and attended meetings showing people how to use their Apple II computers. This is where he met his wife, Vega, who had similar interests. They married in 1985 in Reno. Mike was invited to work as a bond broker and passed the Series 7 test to do that. He decided he didn't like the work and got a job for an office supply company helping people with their computers. Then he got a job working for a publishing company as a computer technician. When that company was sold, he got a job selling hardware. He was active in Kiwanis, and participated in their fund-raising activities, including the British Car meet. Throughout his life he enjoyed working with his hands. He helped his best friend remodel his house in Berkeley before moving to Carmel. After he married, he fixed up Vega's house so it could be rented, as they bought a house together in Marina. Then they bought a place in Monterey and rented out the Marina house. Mike and Vega enjoyed going places. They went to a science fiction convention every year. Vega bought a 914 and they joined the Porsche Club, which had a variety of activities going to local places. When not doing that, they would go on weekend trips and sometimes take off for two weeks for longer trips to visit Vega's relatives in Milwaukee. In 1995 Mike won a Harley Davidson in a charity raffle and they joined the Harley Owners Group and went on rides with them. In 2003 Mike and Vega were able to adopt a baby girl, who they took with them everywhere. Mike was a great father and husband, and was always ready to help out when needed.
Mike is survived by his wife Vega Roecker and his daughter Autumn Rogers, and by two younger brothers, William Rogers and Mark Rogers.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Monterey on July 30, 2023. Anyone who would like to attend please email [email protected].
