Obituary of Rick Allen Myers
“What a beautiful day!” - Rick Myers

Ever the Optimist...a saying that many remember him by. Rick Myers, 75, of Santa Cruz, California, passed away peacefully at his residence, on April 6, with his wife and son by his side. Preceded in death by his parents Marie and Melvin Myers and his brother Gary. Survived by his soulmate of 52 years Marcy McCaffrey Myers, daughter Jodi Morgan, son Adam, granddaughter Marley Pearlberg, sister Linda Forrest and brother Brian.

Rick and his brothers and sister grew up in the small town of Stanley, N.D. (current population: 2,000). Rick attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he earned a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and audiology. While there, he met his wife-to-be Marcy at a local laundromat. They recognized each other from the University Computer Center where they both worked on different floors. Captivated by her smile, he immediately asked her out... Marcy knew on the third date that the tall, handsome, charismatic man was to be her husband.

Rick worked hard, and played hard. He lived life energetically and to the fullest. His work was carpentry which he learned from his grandfather from an early age. Rick moved the family to Santa Cruz, California in 1980. He earned an AS degree in construction and energy management from Cabrillo College in Aptos, then focused his life’s work on residential and commercial construction, always exuding pride in a job well done. He worked as a building inspector for Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties and the City of Saratoga. After his approximate two decade tenure as a building inspector, he worked with Seahawk Enterprises and then Mehus Construction, managing new and extravagant construction projects. Rick knew how to build, renovate, and repair almost anything. Leading up to mid 2024 Rick continued to expertly manage many residential construction projects as a licensed general contractor alongside his son, Adam.

Sharing the love of music, Rick and his wife Marcy had many close friends who are accomplished local musicians. One could often find them at many outdoor concerts and venues where music was playing. They also enjoyed vacationing in their cabover camper all over the multitude of beautiful California locations, as well as many trips to Mexico and Hawaii. Rick enjoyed fishing, playing Monday-night poker with his buddies, reading for hours on end (Finishing 1-3 books a week), and drinking his own Rickey’s specially made margaritas.

Rick will be remembered for his big heart, curious ever-learning mind, boundless energy and generosity, sense of humor (albeit inappropriate at times), unwavering optimism, and zest for life. His family and friends’ love for him is immense. Rest in Peace and Love…Fly Free Beautiful Soul!
