Roger was born in East Orange, New Jersey on June 11, 1937. Roger’s family later moved to Georgia, where he attended the University of Georgia and played on the football team. Roger enlisted in the Army after college and was transferred to Fort Ord in 1962. When discharged from the Army, he stayed on the Monterey Peninsula and worked as an administrator and football coach at Monterey High School for 32 years. Roger fondly remembered all the trips to Disneyland and Hawaii that he chaperoned. His passion for sports led him to many years as a referee for, youth, high school, and college programs that included baseball, softball, and football.
In 1989, he married the love of his life, Mary D’Agui. Together they enjoyed many years of going to the 49ers and Giants games, camping with their motorhome, and traveling throughout the country to watch their grandchildren play in competitive baseball and softball games. Roger enjoyed barbecuing and became quite good at hosting many dinners for his family and friends at their home. Roger fostered Labrador Retrievers for several years and enjoyed meeting and playing with the neighborhood dogs.
Roger leaves his wife: Mary, a son: Mick Wells, stepchildren: Lisa White (Nick) and John D’Agui, and grandchildren: Nicholas White, Jesse White, Jordann White, Rachel D'Agui, and Paul J. D’Agui. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ernest and Dorthea Wells, his son, Jeffrey, and his stepson, Paul F. D’Agui. The family would like to thank Dr. Kehl and the nurses and staff at CHOMP in the Garden West and IRU units. Memorial donations may be made to Monterey Bay Labrador Retriever Rescue or a charity of your choice. There will be a celebration of life at Monterey High School on Sunday, November 6 at 2:00 P.M.
