He was born on October 27, 1944, in Los Angeles, California. Tom grew up in Westwood, CA. He went to Emerson Jr. High School, University High School, where he played Junior Varsity basketball. Later Tom moved to northern California where he attended San Jose State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Psychology and Sociology. He completed two years of graduate study in clinical psychology.
Tom had a diverse and accomplished life. He served in the Peace Corps for two years on the island of Tonga. After which he began a long career in the construction industries. Tom was a self-taught carpenter. He built custom homes in partnership with Alan Burrus. Joined CPS as a Development Manager for his longtime friend, Greg Davies. Tom founded and built his own General Contracting business with his sister, Kathy. They worked together for over 20 years, building long term relationships in the commercial construction industry with property managers, commercial building owners, subcontractors, and numerous tenants. Tom believed in developing himself as an example. He was a man of his word and was highly regarded.
Through the years Tom enjoyed motorcycling riding, building furniture, watercolor painting, writing and long walks on the beach at his property in Moss Landing. Throughout his life, Tom held close affections and bonds with his dogs, most recently Jenny a Belgian Malinois mix.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas McGuckin, Sr. and Virginia P. McGuckin and 1st wife, Claudet Webber.
Tom will be dearly missed by his sister Kathy, (Tom Carroll), nephew, Justin, (Jaimey), their two children, Lev and Neri , his cousins Ken (Marisel), and Diane, step brother Charles (Carolyn) and niece Shawn, his Tongan family, Tomalati, (Silia) and their children and his ex-wife Judy and her daughters Jody and Amy with their children Michael, Sierra and Drew.

The Trident Society is assisting the family in a memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17th from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm at Redwood Estate Pavilion, 21450 Madrone Dr. Los Gatos, CA 95033. Snacks, beer and wine to be served. We will encourage all to share your special memory of Tom.
