Ann Dumaresq, whose vibrant career spanned publishing, advertising, teaching, and the performing arts, passed away peacefully at her home in Alameda, California on October 28th, 2024. She was 87 years old and surrounded by family.
A graduate of Goddard College in the early 1960s, where she served as student activities coordinator, Ms. Dumaresq went on to build a diverse and accomplished career. After moving to central Maryland in 1973, she dedicated herself to teaching the arts in public schools while raising her family. Her commitment to learning led her back to Vermont, where she earned her Masters in Education. She then founded the AD&M advertising agency and later was the director at prestigious performing arts venues including the Portsmouth Music Hall in New Hampshire, and Harvard University’s Memorial Hall.
In 1960, she married Mark Ryder, with whom she had three children before their separation in 1981. During her return to Vermont for further education, she met Charles Allen, who would become her co-founder at AD&M and, in 2015, her second husband. Together they shared a lake house in Shoreham, Vermont, which Ms. Dumaresq designed and built. Mr. Allen preceded her in death in 2018. Ms. Dumaresq moved to California to live closer to her children in 2018.
She is survived by her children Sebastian Ryder, Larkin Ryder, and Joce Ryder; her granddaughter, Parker Flynn Sela; and her beloved step-grandchildren Samuel Allen, Rose Frances Allen, Sophie Marie Dasaro, and Brennen Dasaro. She was predeceased by her step-grandson Joseph Allen. Those who knew her will remember her genteel presence, intelligence, and wonderful sense of humor.
The Trident Society in Walnut Creek, CA is handling funeral arrangements. Family and friends will celebrate Ms. Dumaresq’s life at Scott’s Seafood Bar and Grill in Oakland, CA,November 16th at 12pm. A subsequent event will be held in Vermont at a time and place to be determined.
