Barbara Anne Lyons Stewart passed away on November, 29th 2016 in San Rafael, CA surrounded by family. She was born in Evanston, IL on December, 23rd 1951, and grew up in Winnetka, IL and Port Edwards, WI. She attended Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton, MA and graduated from the University of Wisconsin/Madison with a Bachelors of Science in Graphic Design. Barbara earned her masters degree in Architecture at the University of Minnesota/Minneapolis. From Minneapolis she moved to Chicago and then decided to hit the west coast – settling in the San Francisco bay area. Barbara was an accomplished architect, interior designer, speaker and author. She built her unique feng shui and evidence-based design practice and published two books. More important to Barbara than her professional accomplishments was her family. She will be greatly missed by her son Zach Stewart, daughter Cate Stewart Davey, granddaughter Isla Davey, sister Marjorie Doyle Lyons, and the many cousins and friends who loved her and appreciated her kindness, warmth, charm, sense of humor and vivacious spirit. Barbara loved travel, good musicals, a glass of wine with friends, motivational speakers, dinner parties and take-and-bake pizza. Barbara was great at giving practical advice and being a caring sounding board to friends and relatives. She volunteered with the Marin Humane Society, fostering over 20 puppies. She adopted her last foster dog, Charlie, who was lovingly referred to as her “shadow” – preferring to always be at her side. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Marin Humane Society or the American Cancer Society in Barbara’s memory. Barbara’s life will be celebrated on January 14th, 2017, 11:00am at St. Anselm Church in Ross, CA.
