Donald passed away peacefully on June 17, 2021. His family, who owned the Richmond Farm Creamery, was part of the rich history of El Sobrante. He relished his childhood memories and reveled in sharing stories from his youth.
Donald equipped himself for success as an exploration geophysicist, with degrees from the University of California at Berkeley, the University of Oklahoma, and Washington University. His career included time with Amoco, Gulf Oil, and Chevron.
He was fortunate to see the world. Work assignments included Lagos, Nigeria and Perth, Australia. Many other travel opportunities – both personal and professional – took him to other corners. Through it all, his fondness for the Bay Area remained, and he returned to the area after his retirement.
In his day, Don was an avid golfer, a baseball fan, a lover of old movies, and a voracious reader. He worked crosswords in ink. And he enjoyed good wine.
He is survived by his children, Erik (Tina) and Lisa (Arno); his grandchildren Ava, Ben, Lauren, Erin, and Ger; and his great-grandchildren Madalyn and Oliver. He also leaves behind his long-time friend Mary. He will be missed by family and friends.
At his request, there will be no services. Donations in his memory can be directed to Save Mount Diablo or the charity of your choice. He would be pleased if you raised a glass in his honor!
