(March 15, 1926 – December 11, 2019)
Surrounded by her loving family Juanita Frances Schroder peacefully passed away on December 11, 2019 at the young age of 93. Juanita, a devout Catholic, was a first-generation San Franciscan born March 15, 1926 to loving parents Antonio and Salvadora Moreno who migrated from Ogijares and Malaga, Spain respectively. She grew up in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco before moving to Mountain View where her family lived on a chicken farm during the depression. They later relocated back to San Franciso where she graduated from Commerce High School.
Juanita met her husband Albert at a church picnic in Niles Canyon. As she tells it, she was serving food to guests and he asked her to dance. They danced and talked for the rest of the day and missed the bus home “and that was it”. They were married at Mission Dolores in San Francisco in 1948 and were together for 37 wonderful years before Albert passed away.
Juanita worked as a bookkeeper for PG&E, Dan Curtain and Dee Engineering. After her retirement, Juanita devoted several decades to traveling the world with family and friends. Juanita was involved in the docent programs of San Francisco’s Museums, Parks and Zoo where she often traveled to various Zoos in the country to learn about their animal programs. To this day she remains the eldest docent in San Francisco Zoo history. Juanita also enjoyed bowling at Castle Lanes and Classic Bowl with an average of 126 and loved Black Jack and Rumicube games.
Aside from spending precious time with her family and pets, she enjoyed listening to music, luncheons with friends and family, and reading; particularly mysteries and biographies. Juanita was also a lover of all animals, and enjoyed learning and teaching. She was also fond of staying in and puttering around her San Francisco home where she lived since 1955.
Juanita had a quick wit and a genuine sense of what was funny. She found humor in most everything. She could find something to talk about with everyone and showed a genuine interest in hearing what people had to say. Juanita was extremely kind and caring, and always enjoyed a good conversation. Juanita was a vibrant person and her light will be forever missed.
Besides both parents and husband, Juanita is pre deceased by her sister Gloria and brother Ralph.
Juanita leaves behind her 4th generation San Francicso native son, Alan George Schroder, his wife Maureen Ann Collins Schroder along with her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren: Alicia, her fiancé Tim and daughters Olivia and Evelyn (Shoreline, WA), Ariana, her husband Kevin and children Morgan, Ashley, Jonathan, Erin and Patrick (Discovery Bay, CA) and grandson Kyler, his wife Marina and daughter Cora (Mechelen, Belgium). She also leaves behind cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends all of whom she loved dearly.
Although we are going to miss you Juanita, you gave us so many great memories, inside jokes and ideas to live a good life, that it’s hard to imagine a day going by without finding something that reminds us of you.
