Linda Lee (Sudduth) Large, 72, of San Francisco, passed away peacefully with her husband Dan Large at her side on August 21, 2023. Linda had endured a long battle with cancer, and though her body was ready to move on, she passed with a high state of spiritual awareness and love for all those around her, in high spirits and state of mind.
Linda was a true California girl. Born on October 21, 1950, to Chester and Virginia Sudduth in Alhambra, California, and then moving on to various locations in our great state including Redding, Susanville, Summit City, North Highlands Sacramento and Daly City. She then settled in San Francisco for the remainder of her life. She attended Westmoor High School in Daly City and Skyline Community College in San Bruno, CA.
She worked up through the ranks in the Hospitality industry becoming a manager in the famed St. Francis Hotel on Union Square and Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco's Japan Town. A favorite memory for her was meeting Raymond Burr (of Perry Mason fame) who she considered a very nice man and orchid fancier.
In the early 1980’s she was introduced to the spiritual technology of Scientology. Soon after joined the staff at the Church of Scientology in San Francisco where she served to help mankind for a period of 15 years.
She became a top administrative executive in charge of personnel and later in her career was a fully trained counselor and ordained minister. She assisted thousands of parishioners in all aspects of life, from bettering their familial relationships, helping on education, and assisting others overcome the harmful effects of drugs. Her career was rich with adventure and success.
After her staff career Linda was a volunteer supervisor for the Criminon program, a special program based on the works of L. Ron Hubbard which involved assisting incarcerated inmates with self-help courses to learn basic tools for success in life.
Helping others was a passion of Linda’s in all aspects of life. She considered it her greatest joy to see the lives of others benefited and improved through her efforts.
Linda as well was very aesthetically inclined. She loved crafts and was well-known for her crochet skills and blankets and other items she made for family and friends. Whether it be crafts, crochet, or special Christmas wrappings, Linda was always working to create and bring more joy and beauty into the world of others.
Linda is survived by her husband of 36 years Dan Large, twin sister Lorri Sudduth, sister Debbie Schatmeier, half-sister Charla Garth, brother Jim Sudduth-Klinger and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, uncle Mark Markwick and sister Becky Sudduth.
Linda’s spiritual belief is that of the eternal existence of one’s spiritual identity, and that one does return and lives again. She is thanked for what she has given to us in this life. The world is a better place for her having lived. She will be missed and we look forward to seeing her in the future with the same charm and wit and smile and love for her fellow man. Farewell for now Linda, god speed and we look forward to your return.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Sunday, September 10th at the Church of Scientology of San Francisco 701 Montgomery Street. Doors open for visitation at 1:30 PM. No flowers or other gifts are requested. If anyone feels a desire to contribute anything material, Linda would like you to do so to any social cause that is meaningful to you.
