Our loving mother Nelly Del Carmen Estrada passed peacefully on a Sunday March 26th in the Holy Season of Lent surrounded with prayers and love at Stonebrook Care Center. Nelly was born July 25, 1929 in Managua Nicaragua, she was the daughter of Arturo and Christina Berroteran, Nelly was one of six siblings, five sisters and one brother, Nelly left Nicaragua for San Francisco as a young woman with her older sister. Met a young Nicaraguan man and married, Roberto Estrada (divorced) they had three children, raised them in San Francisco until 1964 when the family moved to Pleasant Hill, in 1984 Nelly moved to Concord, Nelly worked as a court translator for Contra Costa County at the Martinez Courts and later Nelly worked as a Customer Credit Assistant for Montgomery Wards where she retired. Nelly moved to Antioch and owned her home with her daughter Rebecca Estrada. She is survived by her son Roberto Estrada (Kathleen), Rebecca Estrada, and Renee Estrada Seaton (Craig (former)).
Nelly took pride in being a homemaker, during our formative years we never went to school without a packed lunch upon returning from school, she was willing to assist us with our homework while making sure dinner was ready. As adults with our own families, we enjoyed our Sunday dinners together at mom’s house even if it was only hot dogs, Nelly loved her family dearly and we loved her. Little things amused mom. She was always laughing, enjoying her wine, reminiscing about her sisters, her time in Nicaragua as a little girl and her love for baseball. Nelly loved to read books, often finishing novels in one day, only to start another.
Nelly had the joy of five grandchildren, Dominic, Austen, Margret Joaquin (Clinton), Taelor and Wyatt. She also had three great-grandchildren Elisha, Ella and Olivia. After experiencing two brain surgeries to clip aneurysms Nelly slowed down greatly. Rebecca, living with mom, took care of our mother, in those years when Nelly really needed assistance keeping her in their home as long as possible. When Renee thinks of our mom, Renee reflects on the Children's book, ‘The Giving Tree’ by Shel Silverstein. Her joy was giving of herself without counting the cost. Loving because that came natural to her. And being passionate about enjoying her family and her dear friends.
Nelly will be missed dearly by her family and friends however Nelly will live in our hearts, memories and prayers for as long as we live, until we meet her again mom, I love you
