With Tom’s passing the world says good-bye to a kind and generous man.
Tom, was born on September 9, 1933 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Arthur and Anna Lou Marlow. Due to his father’s work as a civil engineer, the family moved many times to many parts of the country. Tom had thirteen addresses by age eighteen.
Tom graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1955 and was a member of Theta Delta Chi fraternity. Tom continued at MIT to receive his Master’s Degree in 1957.
Tom served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1960 at Moffett Naval Air Station as a Lieutenant in the Civil Engineering Corps. He received a commendation in 1960 for support of the US Navy POLARIS missile program. Tom continued his service in the US Navy Reserve until 1967.
Tom suffered from hearing loss associated with an aircraft accident working as an engineer in the South Pole. As a result of this, he became an important and valued member of The Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California, a non-profit dedicated to helping people with hearing loss.
Of all Tom’s many achievements, none was more meaningful than his marriage to Bev. Tom married Bev on November 2, 1957 and the two would become each other’s North Star. Together they built a family of four lovely daughters. Tom and Bev enjoyed the arts, travel, and spending summers at their home on Cape Cod.
Tom is survived by Bev and their four daughters, Lee, Annie, Elizabeth, and Joanna, as well as his sister, Peggy Guthrie of Choteau, Montana. He also leaves five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Tom will be deeply missed but never forgotten by those who loved him.
In lieu of flowers charitable donations can be made in memory of Tom Marlow to The Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California.
