George William Packard Jr.

We are deeply saddened to announce George W. Packard, Jr., 92 entered into the presence of the Lord as a faithful servant on August 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. George will be remembered for his generosity, wisdom, kindness, and punctuality. Above all, his life was defined by the deep love he shared with his large family and the countless friendships he cherished.

George was born in Fallon Nevada where he spent his youth and graduated high school in Hawthorne as a GreenWave. He was in the National Guard for two years and made his lifelong career at PG&E, starting as a pole digger moving onto lineman and foreman and retiring as a tree trimming supervisor. He worked with his team from Fresno to Eureka in the most remote areas of California to bring power to the state. He loved what he did, and even after retirement, if we ever passed a broken pole, he would report it to PG&E. He was a devout Lutheran in Santa Rosa and Patterson, making friends throughout the church and bringing along the grandkids every chance he and Rita got.

George’s biggest passion was his family. He spent the last 28 years with his devoted wife Rita, cruising and traveling the world. He considered himself blessed by each of his twelve children and their kids. He was determined to make it to every grandchild’s high school graduation and share his wisdom with all who would listen. He treated nieces and nephews as his own, along with children at church, or even waitstaff – anyone who went out for a meal with George knows! He made friends everywhere he went.

George is survived by his beloved wife Rita; his adored children Bob (Marsha) Packard of Redding, CA, Robin (John) Felberg of Santa Rosa, CA, Gary (Maria) Packard of Yelm, WA, Jan (Gary) Burke of Ridgecrest, CA, Laurie Jamison of Modesto, CA, Billy Kisner of Modesto, CA, Georgina Zamagni of Lacey, WA, Tim Packard of TX, and Spring Packard of Sacramento, CA; his stepdaughters, whom he loved as his own, Elizabeth Weydt of Norwell, MA, Catherine Nelson of Waltham, MA, and Patricia (Matt) Maloney of Livermore, CA; and his cherished 29 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father George W. Packard Sr., his mother Leona Packard, his brothers Elwyn “Bud” Reiter and Leslie “Ray” Packard, and his sister Vivian “Jean” Conelly.

There will be a memorial service at 11:30am on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 650 W Las Palmas, Patterson, CA followed by a luncheon in Moe Hall.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the charity of your choice. George was a regular supporter of Shriners Hospital for Children as a tribute to the early surgeries he had for his cleft palate, or Navigator’s whose passion is to help others to know Christ, make Him known, and help others do the same.
