August 28, 1949 – May 10, 2025
Jon Stephen Robbins, lovingly known as Steve, passed away at the age of 75 surrounded by his family.
Born in Palo Alto, CA on August 28, 1949, Steve never moved far, living most of his life in Mountain View, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and laughter.
Steve worked at California Canners and Growers in Sunnyvale for 15 years until its closure in 1983. While working summers, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Santa Clara University, graduating in 1971. He later returned to school for a computer science degree and went on to spend over 30 years working at NASA Ames Research Center.
Steve met his wife, Kathi, at only 19 and they were married on May 12, 1974. They were just a few days shy of their 51st anniversary upon his passing. They loved traveling, especially going on hiking trips to explore the national parks, with plans to see as many as possible. After retiring, they spent much of their time working together in the garden, which was admired by many in the neighborhood.
Steve never sat still. He was always working on something – whether it was projects around the house, cooking meals and baking cakes, or just helping out wherever and whoever he could. He left a lasting (and often comical) impression on everyone he met. He was a beloved softball coach, a generous friend, an amazing dad, and loving husband. His greatest joy in recent years came from being a grampa, playing with and teasing his grandsons. No one could make them laugh quite like he could (and vice versa). He will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
Steve is survived by his wife, Kathi Robbins; his daughters Alyssa Robbins (Jeff) and Becca Cavero (Eric); his two grandsons Liam and James & his brother Marcus Robbins.
