Joan Alice Johnson of Yorba Linda, California passed away peacefully on February 14th, 2025 at the age of 88. She was born on September 14th, 1936 in Glendale, California where she grew up and graduated from Hoover High School. She met her husband of 68 years, Roger Johnson, at Hoover High School and they were married on September 11th, 1956 in Glendale.
Joan worked as a secretary until she started her family and then she transitioned to managing her household and caring for her 4 children. However, she enjoyed keeping busy with multiple volunteering jobs. She was the PTA President for Sierra Vista and Sonora High Schools in La Habra. She was the President and an active member of the CHOC Mad Hatter Guild. She served on the La Habra Planning Commission for 8 years. She was a member of the Soroptimists of Fullerton and worked as a docent at the Nixon Library many years. She also enjoyed going back to work for 10 years at Fullerton High School as the Career Center Guidance Counselor.
Joan and her husband, Roger, loved to travel and they enjoyed many trips to Europe, Scandanavia, China, Russia, and cruises down the Mississippi River and the Panama Canal. They enjoyed weekend and holiday getaways to their cabin in Lake Arrowhead and the family has many wonderful memories of our time together at many 4th of July holidays. Her family also fondly remembers many wonderful family vacations including “camping” in a motorhome, riding motorcycles in the desert and an epic 3 week cross country trip to visit his family in Minnesota in our Chevy station wagon!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Johnson, her Mother, Hilda Mattis and her Father, Clarence Mattis. She is survived by her 4 Children – Mark Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Doug Johnson and Kim Magdaleno. 8 Grandchildren – Tiffany Gates, Adam Johnson, Brad Johnson, Justin Magdaleno, Lauren Magdaleno, Kyle Johnson, Amanda Johnson and Lindsey Johnson. 6 Great Grandchildren – Madison Gates, Mackenzie Gates, Mae Johnson, Ava Johnson, Reid Johnson and Penny Johnson.
Growing up as an only child she has left behind a beautiful family legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support. Her beautiful smile , positive outlook and welcoming spirit will be greatly missed by us all.
