It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of B Ross Landess, known to family and friends as “Ross,” who passed away peacefully at his home in Rancho Mirage, California, on August 6, 2026, just one day after his 85th birthday. Ross was born on August 5, 1941 in Tucumcari, New Mexico, to William Henry “Bill” Landess born July 27, 1917 in New Hope, New Mexico and died July 29, 2004 in Ranco Mirage, California and Lalla Davis Deatherage Landess born August 16, 1920 in Shamrock, Texas and died January 11, 2009 in Rancho Mirage, California.
Ross was deeply loved by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many patients whose lives he touched throughout his career. He dedicated more than 40 years to the medical profession, serving as a physician and Chief Medical Officer. Throughout his career, he was committed not only to caring for patients but also to helping others grow in their professions. He mentored countless physicians and nurses in behavioral health, quality and performance improvement, risk management, patient safety, clinical education, credentialing, and insurance.
Ross also proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of Captain. During a helicopter rescue mission, he suffered a serious back injury and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service and sacrifice. He was honorably discharged in June 1972.
Throughout Ross's life he enjoyed his many horses and the love of his dogs, and leaves behind his tiny, constant companion Skittles.
Ross is survived by his brother, Gerald Lee Landess of Los Angeles, California, and his sister, Sherma Diane Landess of Rancho Mirage, California. He will be remembered with great affection by his family, friends, former colleagues, and the many people whose lives he influenced through his medical career and service to others.
His family will be hosting a private Celebration of Life.
