David Hollenkamp passed away on August 3, 2026 in Riverside, California. He was born on July 15, 1939 in Breese, Illinois to his parents, Henry Hollenkamp and Elizabeth Mueller. He was one of 10 children. He used to milk the cows and drive the hay-bales on the farm. While he was in high school he joined the basketball team. David was also an alter boy at the local church..
After high school, he went on to join the Navy. They then stationed him in San Diego county.
David went on to marry the love of his life, Irene Munoz on October 13, 1962 in Lemon Grove, California. They met while Irene was parked at the diner with her friends. He parked next to her and said “Hey Chiquita”. She told him that they don’t talk to strangers and rolled up her window. She told him to walk a straight line because she thought he was intoxicated. He walked the line for her and then she told him she doesn’t date sailors. Irene left to take her friends home, and she stayed the night at her friends home in National City. When she woke up, clothes in her hands, he was outside looking at her car because it had a distinctive dent on the front bumper. He looked at Irene as she was walking to the car and asked her “do you remember me” and she replied “I don’t talk to strangers”. David then asked her to go out and Irene said she wouldn’t go alone so he suggested she ask her friend to come along. They went to Oscars Drive Thru on a double date. He later got sent to Hawaii and wrote her a letter, and she wrote back. He wrote back again asked her when he came back if she would go out with him and she said yes. About 3 months later they got married.
David was a dedicated husband and loving father. After doing 4 years with the Navy he switched to the Air Force Reserve. He dedicated 20 years and then retired.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, dancing, and eating anything chocolate. He and his wife won many dancing contests together throughout the years. He loved classic cars and car shows too.
David will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Irene, his two sons David and Dean, his two grandchildren Trenton and Courtney, his great grandson Alessandro, and his dog Peanut #2.
Our papa surely will be missed by all but in our hearts forever.
