Gwendolyn Strong

Gwen Strong, a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on November 4, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee, to her adoring parents, Dave Whitefield and Katie Worthy. Her vibrant spirit and tenacious drive were apparent from an early age, qualities that she carried throughout her life.

Gwen’s early years in Memphis were filled with her parents’ love and the companionship of her siblings. She was preceded by her parents and her siblings Shirleye, Mary Ann, Linda, Edward, Michael, Calundus, Jacqueline, and Phillip. Despite these losses, Gwen’s heart remained open and full of love, a testament to her resilience and strength.

A trailblazer in her professional life, Gwen broke barriers as the first black female diesel mechanic with the Minneapolis Transit Authority, where she worked for a decade. Her pioneering spirit and determination inspired many who had the privilege to know her. Later, she dedicated over 20 years to her career as a Tax and Audit preparer, earning respect and admiration from colleagues and clients alike. Gwen pursued and earned certification as an Expert Auditor, a testament to her dedication and commitment to continuous learning.

Gwen’s faith was an integral part of her life. As an active Jehovah’s Witness for more than 40 years, she found peace and purpose in her spiritual pursuits, forming deep and lasting friendships within her congregation.

Her quick wit and warm smile were the hallmarks of her personality, bringing joy and laughter to family gatherings and quiet moments alike. Gwen’s love and wisdom live on in her children, Donna (Thomas), Nathan, and Sabrina (Jason), and her siblings, Wanda Faye, Debra, Gregory, Victor, Sandra, Sharon, and Annette. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Michael Jr. and Jade, and her great-grandchildren, Kayson, Michael III, and Neveah, who will carry her spirit forward into the future.

Gwen’s life was further enriched by a host of nieces, nephews, spiritual brothers and sisters, and dear friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her beloved dog, Serenity, who predeceased her, was a constant companion, bringing joy and comfort to her days.

A memorial service to celebrate Gwen’s life will be held on October 1, 2026, at 4:30 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, located at 510 N. Sunset Ave, Banning, CA 92220. Her family finds solace in the words of Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Gwen Strong leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and faith. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
