Harry Lee Murphy, a devoted family man, loyal friend, accomplished metallurgist, and passionate Christmas tree farmer, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on February 9, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, Harry was one of three sons born to Harry Leonard Murphy and Esther Walker-Murphy, a dedicated schoolteacher. He grew up as the middle child between his brothers, Charlie and John. Tragically, Harry's father passed away when Harry was just 15.
Harry pursued his education with determination, graduating from Michigan State University before embarking on a distinguished career as a metallurgist. He contributed his expertise to several notable companies, including Crucible Steel, Trent Tube, and Huck Manufacturing, where his innovative spirit and technical acumen were highly valued.
A loving husband to his wife of 65 years, Joan, Harry was also a proud father to three children: Scott, Natalie Murphy-Voykovic, and Daniel. His family extended to four cherished grandchildren—Sean Murphy, Samuel Murphy, Emily Voykovic, and Abigail Voykovic—and two great-grandchildren, Harper and Asher Murphy. As an uncle, he offered guidance to his extended family, always ready with a story or a helping hand.
Harry had a keen eye for the world around him, finding joy in photography throughout his life. He was an avid fisherman, bicyclist, motorcyclist, and enthusiast of camping and hiking. At the age of 55, he retired from his professional career and, alongside Joan, began constructing their dream home on a five-acre ranch in Murrieta, California. There, they transformed their land into a thriving Christmas tree farm—a hobby that allowed them to connect with nature, their community, and each other while creating lasting holiday memories for others. Harry also volunteered his time regularly to assist others with their taxes and financial guidance.
Harry's legacy is one of resilience, creativity, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Samaritan’s Purse in his honor. https://www.samaritanspurse.org/memorial-page/harry-lee-murphy-hemet-ca/
