Janet Lenore Leitman

Janet studied at Chapman University and UC Davis. She later lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and San Joaquin Valley working as a social worker. She went on to earn a PhD in Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in Fresno, California in 1976. In 1976 she married her husband Michael Leitman. They moved to Palm Desert, California in 1977 and in 1978 Janet and Michael started a private practice in Palm Desert, Applied Psychological Services. Janet lived in Oceano, CA from 1992 - 1997 before returning to Palm Desert.

Janet was full of life and enthusiasm. She was an empathetic listener and a family member once said, “When you are in Janet’s presence, it is like you are in a warm golden light.” Janet lived many lives and touched many lives. She was a powerful poet and writer and found beauty and art wherever she went. She had what she called an impish sense of humor and always rooted for the underdog.

Janet is survived by her husband Michael, daughter Sasha and grandson Max.
