Patricia was born Patsy Tischer on April 25, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa to Dale and Vic Tischer of Fort Dodge, Iowa. She died in Hesperia, California on September 2, 2018, in Hesperia, California,from the natural aging process at age 94. She was a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri with a degree in Radio in the 1940's . She was voted the most Well-Groomed at college and throughout her life maintained a sense of style in her dress and always wore hats!. She worked as an aide in the Iowa State Capitol and was proposed to by the Governor's son. She worked in Hollywood as a script girl for some well known actors of the times. She met her husband, James Newell Woods in Iowa and was married in Hollywood. When he died in 1968, she remained single for the next 50 years, supporting herself as an artist. They had four children - her daughter, Julie Garrett, of Saddlebrooke, Missouri; her son Lafe Woods, of Edmonton, Canada and her sons Matthew Woods and Daniel Woods. She is preceded in death by her brother, Todd Tischer. She leaves behind her brother's three children, Sarah, Michael and Andy; her 12 grandchildren- Laura Winchester, Aaron Mandell Garrett , Holly Patricia Garrett, Kaite Woods, Tristan Woods, Moriah Woods, Savannah Woods, Conner Woods and Logan Woods; Rory and Mason Woods of Missoula, Montana ,and three great-grandchildren - Shawn A. Garrett, Ryland Mandell and Alyssa Mandell of Sacramento. She also had a special relationship with her son-in-law, Mark Garrett and her daughter- in -law, also named Patricia Woods.
She wanted to be known for the art she leaves. She was an avid oil and pastel portrait painter, well-known in Iowa and in the High Desert of southern California for her ability to capture people's likenesses and their spirits. Her artwork is in many places in both the High Desert and Iowa. She was a professional artist .Not only did she paint portraits for a living, she painted murals on barns, churches, cars, movie actors, and she liked to create her own imaginary scenes. She drew people's likenesses in charcoal at parties for gifts and was often paid because people appreciated her talents The artists she admired were Van Gogh and Modigliani. She idolized Susan Hayward as an actress and throughout her life modeled herself after her. She loved to read poetry outloud and actually won a prize for one of her poems that was published.She loved jazz music, but also loved Verdi's Requiem Mass and the conductor Zubin Mehta. She was alway proud of her children's and grandchildren's musical and artistic talents. She was a woman who loved her family. She will be remembered with fondness for her thoughtfulness and concern for all her family and friends. She had a spiritual awakening at age ninety when she accepted Christ as her Saviour so we rejoice that she is in heaven, safely in the arms of her saviour Jesus Christ.
