Thelma attended the first 8 years of school in a one-room school-house in Drakes Mills. Her mother was the teacher for part of those years. Thelma finished her education at the “town school”. Thelma married Richard (Dick) Mitchell in 1953 and enjoyed 60 years with him until his passing in 2013. She subsequently married Richard Jones in 2015. He survives.
Thelma enjoyed playing saxophone in her school band as well as later in life in a band with Dick and friends Mark and Rose Smith. She also took enjoyment from singing in the high school chorus and church choir. She often sang around the house for her own pleasure. Thelma enjoyed bowling and golfing in local leagues and was a member of Gam Sac Mah and the CSHS Booster club.
Once her children were in school, Thelma was a bank teller in Cambridge Springs, first at First National Bank and with each change over the years until her retirement from Citizen’s Bank. She and Dick traveled through-out all 50 states except Alaska and to other countries, finally settling at The Fountain Of Youth in California where she made many dear friends. Thelma also enjoyed traveling with Richard Jones to many places once they were married. Thelma and Richard spent many happy experiences together.
In addition to her second husband, Thelma is survived by four children; Bruce (Peggy), Rob, Randy (Linda) and Kimberly (Tom Glenn) and her best friend Beryl McColligan. She was also Grandma to seven and Great Grandma to five. In addition to her parents and her first husband, Thelma was pre-deceased by her granddaughter Danielle Mitchell.
Internment will be at Mitchell Cemetery at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to the Danielle Mitchell Memorial Fund which benefits Make-A-Wish at 24209 St Hwy 408 Cambridge Springs, PA 16403
