Dorothy Shindle passed away July 13, 2025 at the age of 91 and a half. Preceded in death and waiting to greet her was her husband of 53 years, Cecil ‘Ed’ Shindle, her parents, her Auntie Violet and all five of her siblings. She leaves her legacy with her son, Michael Shindle, her daughter Margaret Evangelista & husband Jeff, Margaret’s three children; Danielle Cannarozzi & husband Nic, Rebecca Schmidt Marquis & husband Chris, Bradley Schmidt, as well as her four great-grandchildren: Stella Cannarozzi, Barrett Marquis, Jackson and Miles Schmidt.
Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Dorothy loved to share stories of her childhood, raised in a home filled with dancing, laughing and hot cuppies of tea. Dorothy joined the Royal Air Force to travel the world and was stationed “far-away” at RAF Upper Heyford near Bicester, England, working as a parachute packer. While stationed there, she met Eddie, her handsome American G.I. They married in 1956 and had their son, Michael, in 1957. Their daughter, Margaret, was born in 1960 when the family was stationed at March Air Force Base. Eddie’s years in the Air Force moved the family to Lakenheath Air Force Base, Luke Air Force Base, Tacoma, Washington to live near family while Eddie served in Vietnam and finally to McClellan Air Force Base in 1969, where they lived the remainder of their lives together.
Anywhere they lived, Dorothy never shied away from having a great time, turning on the music and dancing with anyone that would join her. Dorothy met lifelong friends through Sacramento’s British American Club and was well-known for taking care of people when she worked at Lawrence Links Golf Course in North Highlands or Village Cleaners in Folsom. For the last 14 years of her life, she became the self-proclaimed Ambassador for the Senior Sit & Fit class at Rusch Park, exercising and sharing her gift of gab with all her exercise friends.
Above all else, Dorothy fiercely loved her family. She was ingrained in the daily life of her children and grandchildren, without hesitation. From spending the day gardening or cleaning out a garage to every single school performance and soccer game, her steadfast presence, loud support and unrelenting love was a constant they could always count on.
Dorothy marched through life with panache, handing out her opinions like candy, always sharing a story, a song and a laugh at every opportunity. She will be deeply missed by all wholesome loved her and will live through her endless stories and memories.
