John Curtis Salisbury passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025, in Roseville, California, at the age of 83. A beloved husband, father, stepfather, and friend, John lived a full and active life marked by love, laughter, and deep connections with those around him.
Born in San Francisco, California, on January 24, 1942, John later moved to Sacramento, where he attended C.K. McClatchy High School. A gifted athlete, he stood out for his talent and competitive spirit. He went on to attend the University of California, Berkeley, where he proudly joined the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and played on the Cal basketball team, creating lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
John was an avid sportsman who found great joy in staying active throughout his life. He had a passion for golf, tennis, softball, and volleyball, and especially loved the camaraderie of recreational sports with his close circle of lifelong friends. His playful nature, team spirit, and love for the game brought energy and warmth to every gathering.
John shared 42 wonderful years with his loving wife, Sally Salisbury. Together, they enjoyed biking, running, dancing, and giving back to the community through 10 years of volunteer work supporting the Sacramento Jazz Festival. Their shared passions and deep connection were a source of joy and inspiration to those who knew them.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Sally; his sons, Steven Salisbury (along with Olivia, Ruby, and Ben of Australia) and Michael Salisbury (Los Angeles, CA); his stepsons, Blair Edwards (Vancouver, WA) and Mitchell Edwards (Roseville, CA); and his “adopted son,” Greg Kent (Roseville, CA), affectionately known as “the other brother.”
He will be remembered for his kindness, gentle presence, and easygoing humor—a man who brought people together and made everyone feel welcome.
A private memorial will be held to celebrate John's life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
John’s legacy of love, friendship, and joyful living will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
