Born on July 15, 1949, Adele Levy passed away on February 26, 2025. She died peacefully in her sleep due to natural causes. At the time of her death she had been in a state of advanced dementia which had been brewing for many years.
You may remember her as the woman with the purple in her hair. Or as the woman who always had treats and greetings for the dogs in the neighborhood as she walked the circle every day. You may remember her sharp wit, dry sense of humor and inviting smile. Adele was also known for her social activism, volunteer work, student outreach, and a fine career as an educator for the Montebello Unified School District as well as an established faculty member of Rio Hondo College. She spent her retired time caring for the homeless, gathering donations for the neighborhood animal shelter, taking care of stray cats, and tending her lovely rosess.
If you ever called Adele on the phone you will remember her outgoing voicemail message delivered with an air of defiance: “This is the original Adele. Please leave your message.”
As one of her friends said “I kind of want to have her channel the singer, Adele, and call me with her words… “Hello from the other side”
On behalf of Adele, thank you to those who supported and loved her and those who provided care for her as the dementia advanced. In particular, her caregiver Patty and those at Poway Gardens Senior Living.
If you wish to make a donation in Adele’s name, please do so at your local animal rescue group.
