Alfred Bauer was my dear uncle. My early memories of him were a funny, artistic,, and caring man who always had something fun for me to do. I mostly remember Halloween when we would dress up in costume and he would take my brother and I around the neighborhood. He was delighted with all the other costumes and he Happy atmosphere of the event. He was so kind to me, and I can still hear his laugh. He is at peace now and has suffered with Parkinson’s in his later life. I will always remember him on Halloween. And his mischievous laugh with a sparkle in his eye.

Dear John...I had a dream of Allen this morning...after going to the VA today, I stopped by  Dennis's store In La Jolla...Dennis asked about Alfred, and I said I didn't know anything current...Dennis"s friend Ted looked on his phone, and found that  Allen had passed...my condolences...Allen got me a job at Pickwicks Bookstore around 1971...he was one of two people who introduced me to the world of books ... some years ago, Allen, his clerk Jim (if I remember correctly) and myself drove to Acres of Books (now closed) in Long Beach, and had a good time...Jim said that Allen and I sounded like a couple of "drug addicts" when we were talking about books ...could be...well, I'm sorry for his passing, I hope you are well, sincerely, Richard Thurman
