George was born in Elgin Illinois on September 5th, 1938, to LaVaun and Raymond Conro. He was the third-born of four children. George attended St. Ed's High School, where he played on the basketball, football, and baseball teams. He enlisted in the US Navy serving in the Submarine Force where he was stationed on the West Coast. George retired after serving 10 years on active duty and 10 years in the reserves as a Culinary Specialist. While in the reserves, he also worked as a skilled commercial meat cutter, eventually transitioning to self-employment in the construction industry.
George devoted 29 years to Vista La Mesa Little League after moving to Lemon Grove, contributing as a manager, coach, umpire, president, and sponsor. George enjoyed playing men's softball with many friends on the Deca Forklift Team, a game he continued to play until he was 50 years old. He then made the leap from hitting a 4.5" ball to a tiny 1.75" ball, and at first, he thought swinging at that "ridiculously small round thing" on the grass was completely insane! On the course, he formed new friendships, enjoyed the company of old ones, and treasured moments with his wife, children, and grandchildren, creating many years of unforgettable memories. With a four-legged companion always by his side, his love for dogs shone through in his commitment to rescuing them from the local shelter and providing them with a forever home.
George is survived by his wife Judy of 46 years; four children Matt (Debbie), Angie (Dave), Pam (Mike), Shawn (Jennifer); 8 grandchildren Nancy, Josh, Devon, Sarah, Wyatt, Cookie, Maverick, Bronson; great grandchildren Bree Lynn and Luke; many nieces and nephews.
