Laurie Bushey Robinson, from San Diego, CA, passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2024 at the age of 61. We are heartbroken to lose such an amazing Woman, Mother, Daughter, Wife and Cherished Friend.
Laurie was born on August 22, 1962, to Lieutenant Commander William E Bushey and June Bushey. Her early childhood was spent living in various cities on the West and East Coasts before moving back to San Diego and attending Point Loma High School. She documented those years meticulously in her numerous scrap books, compiled of early childhood family photos’ class photos and detailed explanations of the most important moments in her life.
Laurie graduated from PLHS in 1980, attended UCSB, where she was a Pi Beta Phi, and graduated in 1984. She married Hank Robinson four years later and they welcomed their sons, twins Brett and Kyle in 1991 and Ryan in 1996. Her love for her sons was all-encompassing and fierce, as was her dedication to motherhood and family. She was also dedicated to her beautiful mother, “June Bug”, and loved to share stories about their special relationship. They were definitely two peas-in-apod!
Laurie had numerous life-long hobbies and was a very talented gal. First and foremost was her interest in Genealogy. She loved nothing better than a deep dive into family history and created many detailed Family Trees, complete with historical documentation only she had the ability to dig up. She was an amazing artist, in so many ways, whether it be vivid images in her nature inspired coloring books or beautiful coastal cottages and vignettes thrown together with her foraged finds, miniature trees, seagulls, grass roofs, painted wood bases and rope fences. Laurie loved beachcombing and spent hours and hours on beaches gathering huge amounts of driftwood, shells, seaglass and wishrocks, all of which would end up somewhere in her beautifully decorated home or theme-inspired patios. Her acumen for interior design was constantly on display and she loved nothing more than changing up her seasonal decor. (Christmas was her favorite!) She was an accomplished gardener and made stunning succulent arrangements and always filled the house with vibrant fresh cut flowers. Always a sight to behold. Laurie also loved to travel and documented her travels with beautiful photos of historical sights, ocean sunsets, colorful homes, green doors and laughing family and friends who she loved to travel with.
One of Laurie’s greatest talents was making others laugh. Belly laughs. Snorting laughs. Rolling on the floor laughs. And yes. Of course she loved to laugh as well. Infectious hilarious laughter. Her extraordinary zest for life was contagious and if we were feeling a bit down all we would have to do is call her for an immediate uplift. She did this. With ease. Always there for us. She was kind, honest, empathetic and Full Of Love. Lots of love. Those of us lucky enough to be her friend were blessed with her ability to make us feel extremely special. She enveloped us with open arms and hugs so tight it was hard to leave her embrace. Laurie had so many friends from all walks of life and treated each and every one like Family. It was just so awesome to be with her. She had a true gift…and we were the lucky recipients.
Laurie’s bravery and go-get-’em attitude when diagnosed with Breast Cancer was also awe-inspiring. She was a warrior and fought her cancer with positive vibes and, as always, a huge smile on her face. We all knew she would beat it…and after many treatments, she did! She was a true champion. “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but woven into the lives of others”. - Pericles You will always be with us Laurie Bushey Robinson.
