Rebecca Irene McCune

Becky was born August 23, 1970 at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, CA. She graduated from Christian High School of El Cajon and had accepted Christ as her savior when she was in middle school. As an adult, Becky worked in a variety of jobs including payroll specialist, human resources manager, and at the time of her death, a mortgage officer. Beyond her dedication to her career and remarkable work ethic, Becky was a wonderful person. Her many friends treasured her sunny disposition, sense of humor and her angelic smile. Becky found the best in everyone and shared her love of life freely with all. Her heartbroken friends recall that she was smart, dedicated, loyal and always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. She was beautiful, inside and out, and devoted to the host of friends who will miss her terribly. Friends were important to Becky, but her family was truly the beat of her heart. She is survived by her beloved son, Jacob White, plus her father Thom McCune (Rancho Bernardo), her mother Joan (El Cajon), sister Pam (Louisville, KY), her ex-husband David White, ex-mother-in-law Fay White and her adopted godmother/mentor Merle Cochran – plus a wealth of aunts, uncles and cousins in California and Oregon. Her family relates that Becky always loved reading, animals and hiking the Cowles Mountain trails. She traveled widely for business, but considered San Diego home. Becky was dedicated and focused and brought those fighting skills to her 8-year battle with breast cancer. She was determined to beat the disease and, up until her very last days, was making plans to seek new treatments to battle her enemy. God had different plans and called her home on May 22, 2017. The McCune Family wishes to send their appreciation and deepest thanks to the nurses, doctors and Chaplain John Vertefeuille at Sharp Hospital and Hospice and, especially, Becky’s dear friend Meg Rowe for their loving care of Becky during her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
